What is a Dental Appliance?

We need to do more than simply brush and floss to maintain excellent oral health. For those of us who are active in sports, who grind or clench our teeth or who snore, dental appliances can help protect and preserve our oral structures, and the health of our entire bodies.

At Tuscany Dental Centre, we offer dental appliances – such as sleep apnea devices and mouth guards – to help improve and protect the health of your oral cavity.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep disorders don't just disrupt your sleep; they can also negatively impact your overall health and wellbeing.

In patients who snore, their relaxed throat tissues can cause the airway to become blocked, creating the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced through. For patients with sleep apnea, their throat tissues over-relax and obstruct their airway. This forces the brain to wake them up to breathe.

We offer custom-fitted oral appliances to shift the tongue muscles and the lower jaw so the airway can be opened. This improves air flow and prevents you from waking through the night.

Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards

Custom-made mouth guards are available at Tuscany Dental Centre to fit over your teeth and protect them from damage.

Sports Guards

If you take a hit to the mouth while playing sports, a mouth guard provides a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of the mouth to protect your smile.

Night Guards

A mouth guard can help protect your teeth while you sleep, preventing you from grinding and inflicting damage. If jaw clenching is your problem, a mouth guard will also help keep you from clenching and alleviate some pain.
